Winemaker Duan Britz’s notes: Fresh elegance, well balanced with plush velvety feel and classic dryness. Capensis 2004 can be enjoyed now but will definitely improve with bottle age.  Drink 2 -7 years from vintage.

Climate: Mediterranian.

Soil: Red hutton

Vinification/maturation: Capensis was made from the top selection of barrels of the 2004 vintage. The blend consists of 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32.5%  Merlot, 12.5% Shiraz and 10% Pinotage. A selection of top dry land vineyard blocks ranging from 7 – 17 years old. Individual cultivars were oaked in 90% new wood and 10% second fill French and American oak barrels for 12 months.  The wine was then blended and returned to second fill French barrels for an additional 6 months to integrate the rich flavours, big structure and loads of fruit.

Chemical Analysis: Alcohol – 13.9 vol%; Res. Sugar – 2.00; Acidity – 5.90;  pH – 3.61

“How many Danes have heard of Pinotage? It was bred in South Africa in 1925 by the first viticultural professor in Stellenbosch, Abraham Perold. A cross between Pinot noir and Cinsaut. Deep red colour and great aromas and flavours. This great wine has had the 2008 vintage scooped up by South African Airways for their first class lounge. A huge honour for Marklew, but not so good for us. But don’t worry – I know where the back door to the winery is. Enjoy the 2007 while you can – I cant wait to showcase this awesome South African wine to Denmark.” – Mathew

Opulent ripe dark fruit with firm friendly tannins. The Pinotage 2007 can be enjoyed now but will definitely improve with bottle age (up until 10 years from vintage).

Soil: Red Hutton.

Vinification/Maturation: Our Pinotage 2007 was hand picked at optimum ripeness, sorted and vinified from 10 year old dry land  bush vineyards.

A shorter fermentation and maceration period than other reds with extra plunging to enhance colour and fruit flavours. Oaked for 18 months in a selection of 60% new, 40% 2nd fill French barrels.  MLF completed in barrel.

Chemical Analysis: Alcohol – 14.0 vol%; Res. Sugar – 2.9; Acidity – 6.0; pH – 3.83
